love the opening music great doco air bristling with cell phones just makes a mega-cheddar vibe yuk It's like everything: starts out great then diminishing returns eg bars that are cool then wind up being patronised by gronks ,,, Thailand early 90s - loose, cheap, great music, then a few years later concretey, run by gangsters, commercialised...

I'd travel down from London with a few mates, amazing nights on the underground, I'll never forget them. Remember going out into the courtyard for a breather and a drink, chatting to strangers, everyone was friendly, never saw any trouble. Who remembers getting 'lost' on the dancefloor and then suddenly the lights came on and everyone had to leave, and thinking- where did the last four hours go? Outside in a field some guy would pull up in a Transit and throw the backdoors open, booming music, we'd keep dancing as the sun rose. Absolutely magical times, glad I was part of it.

Sterns? I mean yeah OK, but I could name 10 that were far better. Astoria (telepathy), Lydd (World Dance), Que club (Flashback), Eclipse (Coventry), Shelley's (Stoke), The Haçienda (Manc), Slammin at Bagleys..................... list goes on.

Never forget chatting with a mate at the top end 😂 carpark after an allnighter, hearing rustling. Ignored it, then it happened again. My mate asked "did you hear that"? Next thing you know some guy dropped out the tree saying he was looking for his keys 😂😂

CDJ's why? Why not 1210's and a mixer if you're a"real DJ". Personally I think Traktor is a better platform than Rekorbox or Serrato but I know I'm in the minority. I've never got into CDJ's I went straight from vinyl to a controller, CDJ's are amazing prices of kit but let's be honest they're as obsolete as vinyl, probably less so because a real connoisseur wants to see a vinyl set! As for the rest of your points, really, lighting., toilets wtf! It's not the DJ's concern, you're their to play music. Don't even get me started on requests, I'm of the opinion that they're there to hear YOUR set, if they want to listen to THEIR playlist then they can listen to that at home.

Never went to Sterns but spent many lost weekends at DIY and Spiral Tribe free parties, Castlemorton and then clubs up north like The Orbit, Cream and Voodo. Clubs back then were on every weekend and always packed.

So many memories there’s me at 25.46 I used to dance at the bottom of the stairs to the underground or in the garage room- spent nearly every weekend of 91/92 @ Sterns, along with White Sugar, Bentleys, Fantazia etc etc then onto The Manor, Zap, upto Moneypenny’s & Wobble in Brum - had a blast - still love to dance now think we were so lucky to be part of it!!

Great recommendation on RUclips 👌🏻 As a 53 yr old that went to Sterns 30yrs ago it was definitely a standout club, people coming from all over the country. People necking their gear in the queue 😂 I also remember the little courtyard chill out area. Stairs and rooms everywhere. The flyers were just as legendary

We never went as we had Soul Drop Turn ie Millwaukee's from about 89 but just from word of mouth we knew it was good, their flyers got everywhere back then as sure we were handed some outside The Ecplise when the first clubs started to open. Exodus was local as well & their warehouse illegals were classic, still got our 1200's & llf at what our generation got up too.

When you talk to people who weren't there about the punk ethos of rave they look at you funny but we all use to turn up to wherever the party was and chip in for petrol for the generator and it did feel like we'd all made it happen. We all supplied something whether it was sound systems, tending the fire, selling the relevant goods or contributing to the petrol bucket. Halcyon days. Luv and Peace.

I think as someone pointed out, there were no camera phones back then, so loads of clubs and events didn't get documented in any way shape or form.....you would literally hear about how something went off, y'know was it a wicked night?! Or just ok....in Bristol from September 91 to Feb 92 we had a mental night on Thursdaynight called X-static which started at 8 and finished at 4a.m. which was different for a club back then, and every week it would be top buzz, Carl Cox, Ellis dee, easygroove, jumping jack frost, rap, Kenny Ken, clarkee, swanee etc but it was like a proper full on rave every week!!! Just fucking mental!! And all the E in that place was amazing, pink newyorkers, californian barrels, love doves, clear caps, refreshers, red and blacks, callie splitz, black jacks, pinkspectrums, white newyorkers.......hahaha!! And the smell of amazing Thai weed, African Bush, durban poison, red seal hash, god knows how many different kinds of morroccan hash , red Lebanese.....God Bristol used to be fucking amazing for great drugs, and the smashing people who made it all happen.....true characters .....I would give anything to go back to 88 and live it all again!! Anyway, the club was opposite the main police station in Bristol!! It really was funny as fuck when everyone came out in the early hours still really fucking right on one giving the onlooking policeman hugs and all the usual behaviour that comes with banging ecstasy!!! Loveeternalpeople

I started going to Sterns in 92 and was there every weekend till the final horn blew! Amazing club, I was gutted when it shut and thought that was it at the time... but then The Mansion House was born.. the Sterns vibe (and alot of the crew) were there but with Hard stomping House in the bunker. I hope someone one day makes a documentary on this.. as it easily rivaled Sterns as the most banging club on the south coast! Great times ❤

walking down those stairs to the underground : fucking rush ! I doved the shit out of it, who didn't? xD every end of the night came too soon : I'm sure the trick to a perfect night was trying to be in all 3 floors at once, I swear I achieved it once or twice... maybE Still got the Marmite & Guinness flyer + the never mind the bollocks here's interdance flyer.... on my wall :P

Looks like it was a special place. I'm a northern lad, everyone had "their" place, where it started for them. I find it a bit frustrating when certain groups try to lay claim to starting the scene in the UK, it was a convergence and culmination of various influences from Chicago warehouse, Ibiza Balearic sounds and all nighter's, the big illegal events and the early club pioneers. The point is the good one all had the same things that made them successful and success meaning a place where people wanted "needed" to be not financial profit, it took the people themselves, the drugs (when E's were E's) not whatever they were when you could get them for £3 a pop??? £20 min and you didn't haggle because they were worth every penny, then the music and the DJ because the DJ had to know how to mix and run a full night session, you couldn't bang it from the first minute, steady start, speed it up, tease the crowd with a banger then drop it! they knew what they were doing. Describing it as a "night out" goes no way to describing what we experienced. I would liken it to more of an out of body experience. What times, nothing so good could last forever. I have one issue with one of the people on the video, he described the Hacienda along the lines of a mega club like Cream or Ministry, nothing could be further from the truth, there was nothing corporate about the Hacienda, I'm from Huddersfield just over the hill from Manchester, it was famous and had a big name but we were a family, we made real friendships and the Hac became famous for all the wrong reasons. It became a posers palace and lost its magic, very sad to see. Factory records co owners with the band New Order didn't make a penny in profit, between them they subsidised the club in the millions over it's life time. As with all the good places it had something special, greater than the sum of it's parts that no corporate venture could hope to recreate in a million years. We were lucky to be around in those times. Love to you all.
